My modern musical tastes
I like lots of different kinds of music. I like some types of music more than others, though. And I really don't enjoy too much rap at all. Not even really because I don't like the sound/style of the music. I don't like most of it because of the content of its lyrics. Anyway, I'm going to go into some detail about all the genres of music I like. Here we go.

- Alternative -
I am a pretty big fan of Everclear. Yes, I am aware that most of their music sounds the same, and they don't really have much of a variety in their style at all. But I like the way they sound, so I like just about every song by them because of that.;) (Their lyrics aren't always the greatest, though.) I also like Vertical Horizon very much. They're awesome. And they had released a song on the radio at the same time that Joel and I were starting to get together, so when I hear it, I think of that time period and I think of Joel and the feelings I had then. It's cool.
I love how music does that. It brings you back to places and times and people and thoughts you haven't had in a while. I love to think about the past. Maybe I do that too much. I think it's because sometimes I don't pay attention to the present enough. So then, after the fact, I analyze what just happened in my life. And then I have to figure out how to deal with/react to it after it's already happened. I don't know if that paragraph is very coherent. But I am trying to make a point. So, read it again if you didn't get it the first time. Anyway, I also like Fastball, Sister Hazel, Matchbox Twenty, Guster, and lots of other bands. - Some of them only because of one song. So really I guess that doesn't mean that I like THEM persay, but that I like some of their music. I know there's more. I'll add to this list later.

~ Country ~
I love lots of country music. I enjoy listening to it, I enjoy singing it... It's great. I don't really like the old stuff, though. Like Hank Williams and people like him who happen to be almost dead and still croaking away. (Is Hank Williams still alive even? I don't know...) I appreciate their music with my head, but I don't much enjoy LISTENING to it. Anyway, I like a bunch of the newer people, like LeeAnne Womack, Tim McGraw, Kenney Chesney, Phil Vassar, Diamond Rio, Lonestar, Lari White, Patty Loveless, Chely Wright, Martina McBride, Sherie Austin, Clint Black, John Michael Montgomery, George Straight, Garth Brooks, Cindy Thompson, Pam Tillis, ... Lots of people. I think my all-time favorite country music artist is Alisson Krauss. I love her voice and the music she does. She's very classy and sexy without being slutty. I do like Faith Hill and Shania Twain to an extent. I even like a lot of their newer, pop music. But I don't like the way they have totally changed their images since they started to get money and lots of fans. I really have a major hard time with the way they (and lots of other women) present themselves on the media. I also hate how the media seems to be portraying women in general lately. More about that later, though...

I'm not a huge fan of Emo or Punk music. But I do like the band Something Corporate.

* Miscellaneous *
I like a lot of random music that I don't really know how to categorize. I love No Doubt, especially their old stuff. I also like Ace of Base. (yes, I do!!! Make fun of me if you want). I like Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Chicago, Linda Eder, Norah Jones,Madonna, ... lots more, too. I also love a lot of the oldies but goodies. Like the classics- Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Linda Rondstadt...
I also LOVE the Carpenters. I started listening to them when I was very little. My parents used to love them when they were growing up. My family would go on vacations out West and I remember singing along to old songs from the Carpenters and tons of other groups from the 60's and 70's. I have a warm spot in my heart for all music that my family used to listen to on vacations. I miss that.

You guys have to understand that the artists/groups/bands I have written on this page are here purely for their music. I don't agree with a lot of their lifestyles or their images. I don't even like all of their songs, and some of the lyrics to some of their songs are very not cool at all. I'm just saying I like some of their music.

< 'Christian Music' >
I like a LOT of Christian artists, actually. I mostly like them for the lyrics of their songs and their images. Which is kinda the reason I don't like a lot of mainstream artists. But, I think sometimes the Christian artists lack in the whole "music" part of it.;) But I do like some of them. I really like Caedmon's Call. My roomie, Krista got me hooked on them. I also really like Third Day, Jars of Clay, Nichole Nordeman, Chery Keagy, Michele Tumes, Geoff Moore, LaRue, and a bunch of others that I can't think of right now. Again, I'll add more later.:) My youth leader from my church back home, Josh Kwasny, is a big fan of a lot of Christian musicians and has kinda passed down a lot of his favorites to all the kids in my youth group, including me. So, yeah. They're cool.:)Some of the lyrics are so comforting and challenging and uplifting and true.!!!:) I love listening to a lot of Christian music, especially when I am sick of trying to wade through all the other crap that's out there in order to find something that's not trashy, full of all kinds of explicit sex, drugs, obscenities, domestic violence,... That stuff is so degrading and depressing! |
